IN THE GYM LOGO

This band formed in late 1979 and was essentially the third incanation of the Stourport High school boy band "Bloody Well Right", which in turn morphed into the highly respected "Streets Ahead".

Their new name was derrived from Don McClean's classic track "American Pie" :-
"I know that you're in love with him, cos i saw you dancin' in the gym...."

The band supported "The Piranahs" at "Kidderminster Town Hall" a gig orchestrated by John Combe, who was also responsible for the infamous "Simple Minds" gig/riot at the same venue. The Pirahahs shortly were to have chart success with a cover of "Tom Hark"

In 1981 "In The Gym" recorded and released a single "Don't Go Slow" and "Playing The Fool" on the Taaga (Tight As A Gnats Arse) label (Cat TAG2). Both tracks appeared on the 1981 compilation album "Lime Wave - The Best Of British Wave Vol. 1" on the Woolfe Records Label (Cat WR9006) 1981.
These tracks were recorded at "The Old Smithy" Studios, Kempsey, Worcester. The recordings were done on a small budget, the sound engineer didn't even mike up the cymbals.

Both released tracks were due to be included on this page, but recent interest has been shown in re-releasing them, by a major New Wave/Punk label
.
